Here is another shot of the Steering & Diving Station. Now I hope I remembered this correctly, the 2 operators, Helmsman was normally on the right station  and the Planesman was on the left. The Helmsman also controlled the Fairwater planes (on the sail). The configuration can be switched around. If you would like a description of a 627 Class Ship Control Console ............CLICK HERE

This is the ships throttle from the Maneuvering Room. The wheels controlled the steam flow to the propulsion turbines. If I remember correctly, the smaller inner wheel is for reverse ( backing down). The portion of the console on the right is where the Reactor Operator monitors the nuclear reactor.
